This Beautiful French Farmhouse has been fully restored from a unique
sixteenth century farmhouse and adjoining barn. The property merges
beautifully with the landscape and is located in a small hamlet in the
Loire Valley, close to the village of Rouvres Les Bois which has a
shop, a fabulous restaurant, post office, a lovely lake and a church.
This fabulous property is a rare building and has been fortunate to
survive. Entering the house is like stepping back in time. There is a
porch which is glazed with original old French windows and is the
perfect place for wet dogs, and shoes and coats.
The kitchen was the original part of the old farmhouse, built in the
nineteenth century and is 24 sq m. It still has the original brick
bread oven opening which is now bricked up and a fireplace which works.
You can have an open fire or have a wood burner fitted, although in the
winter, with the wood burner in the lounge going with the doors all
open, it is plenty warm throughout. There is an inside tap, very useful
for gardening purposes when attaching a hosepipe and there are double
windows at either end filling the room with lots of light.
The middle room has had various uses as a treatment room, a second
sitting room and a library but now it is a proper dining room. Next to
this is the bathroom which has a power shower and large, two person
bath.
The restoration has created a marvellous lounge with double height
ceiling and all the original woodwork on show. All wood has been
treated for woodworm and it is all sound and reconditioned. The space
is wonderful to be in, cosy in the winter with the wood burning fire
roaring and heating the whole house, and full of air and light in the
summer. The lounge is 36 sq m and is a wonderful place for entertaining
with access by the Chakra windows at the side leading into the garden.
Next to the magnificent old king beam is a wooden spiral staircase
which leads up to the mezzanine which has been closed off and converted
into bedroom space. The first part is used as an office but it could
also be turned into a bedroom. This area has water connections and an
en suite could be created here too. The second bedroom follows on from
here with a full length double window which looks out over the woods.
There are roof windows in both rooms so it is always light and airy.
From the kitchen, out through the back door, there is a spacious patio
area that is enclosed for complete privacy. This can be used for
outside dining and there is a barbecue stand where you can place your
barbecue or use it for serving your food.
This in turn leads out in to the magnificent garden, full of mature
trees. There are oaks, silver birch, beech trees, an ash and a great
stand of conifers. The garden is full of quirky places to sit and read
or relax. In the centre there is a fire pit, where many a merry evening
has been enjoyed.
