If you plan to buy a property in Spain you should ask yourself some questions: Where do you want to purchase a house? What type of home? How will you use the property?

Where do you want to live?

Near the coast, in a city or the countryside? Do you like fishing, hiking or gardening? Do you want to go to the movies, shopping?

Why do you want to buy a property in Spain?

As a holiday house for yourself, as an investment or to rent? If you're going to live permanently in Spain, you need to visit the region also in the autumn or winter before buying the property.

Travel and transportation.

You can rent your home more easily if you’re living near an airport. Are there budget flights to the nearest airport? If so taking a short vacation is no problem. Do you need to use public transport? For traveling by car, you should look at the highways and motorways in the area.

Community

Would you live near fellow countrymen or foreigners or want to integrate into the local community?

Services

Is it important to be near schools, shops, doctors and hospitals?

Health

If you are elderly and have problems with your health, it is convenient to have a doctor nearby and live near a hospital. If you have trouble with stairs, then you probably want to buy a bungalow.

Family

If you expect regular visits from family or friends, a guest room with a private shower and WC would be convenient.

What type of home would you like?

Resale or new construction? Do you want something modern or old? Do you want an apartment or a brand new villa? With or without a swimming pool?

Climate

Want to enjoy a lot of sunshine? Southern Spain has much more sunshine hours than Northern Spain

Sale of the property

There may come a time that you want to sell the house. Keep this in mind. Are the houses long on the market then you will have to take that into account.

The above list is not exhaustive. There are many more things you have to consider.
