We are putting our beloved French village house up for sale. We're very
sad, but are not able to travel as much as we once could due to work
commitments.
We have owned the property for 9 years and have renovated it from
uninhabitable to a comfortable holiday home, where we have had great
family holidays. It needs no structural work, just some cosmetic jobs.
It comes with furniture as a complete home.
It is situated in Fresnes Sur Apance (on the Apance river) 5.5 hours by
direct motorway route from Calais in the Haute Marne region of
Champagne. It is however in the last village in Champagne, the next
being The Vosges, in The Lorraine region. The region can only be
described as beautiful with unspoilt forests and rolling green hills.
The house is approx 5 miles from a elegant spa town called Bourbonne
Les Bain with it's own shops supermarkets, restaurants, market and
casino.
Fresne itself has a popular bar and restaurant, which we have always
enjoyed walking to for a meal, or just a drink overlooking the
picturesque main square of the village. the owners have always been
extremely kind and typical of the laid back, friendly people of the
region.
The House is a traditional stone house with a small front garden and
approx half an acre of garden and orchard at the back. It has 2 large
double bedrooms - one is very large and could be used as a family room
with 2 double beds. It has 2 bathrooms 1 downstairs with a bath and 1
upstairs with a shower. It has a lovely large eat-in kitchen with an
enormous fireplace with a woodburning stove and original victorian
cupboards. The Livingroom is roomy and has a large walk through window
leading to the garden.
There is a barn attached to the house which could also be developed. It
is approximately half the footprint of the house. So lots of scope to
put your own stamp on things. There is also an a joining garage that
leads to the bathroom and we used it for storage and as a utility room.
There is a also a vaulted cellar with its own very own well.
We are not overlooked by neighbours, as there isn't anyone in front and
so enjoy magnificent views across a green forested valley.
There is lots to do fishing, hiking, riding, swimming - there is an
picturesque outdoor pool in the next village. There are lots of fairs
in summer and festivals. There are quite a few really good restaurants
and it's of course got lovely local cheese and wine.
T
he area is Eastern France with the nearest big cities Dijon or Nancy
which are approx 1.5 hours away. The ski slopes of the Vosges are also
1.5 hours and Basle (Baal) and the Swiss, German border. The area itself
is so magnificent, we are amazed that it's not more widely visisted.
